Let the symbol carry the story
An hourglass is a compact way to make time visible. In Night Shift, it becomes the center of a darker composition: less a useful object than a place where something might be waiting. The design uses a small number of strong forms so it can read as a whole before the finer lines begin to emerge.
White ink needs darkness
The black fabric is part of the image. It separates lines, holds the interior shadows, and gives the bright edges somewhere to end. Filling every gap would flatten the form. Leaving those spaces open lets the drawing retain a sense of depth while keeping the overall silhouette direct.
